First images From Copernicus Sentinel-5A

First images From Copernicus Sentinel-5A

Handout photo dated October 13, 2025 shows Copernicus Sentinel-5A has delivered its first images after its launch on 13 August 2025, marking a significant milestone in the monitoring of air quality from space. The Sentinel-5 mission provides observations of key air pollutants, essential climate variables, and stratospheric ozone, which is the protective layer shielding life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation. This visualisation, created with Sentinel-5A data acquired on 13 October 2025, shows atmospheric concentrations of two trace gases: ozone (O₃) and formaldehyde (HCHO). The image on the left presents the formaldehyde vertical column density. Elevated concentrations along the northwestern coast of Angola are linked to emissions from wildfires, while increased levels over the Central African Republic stem from a combination of fire activity and biogenic emissions. The image on the right shows a global map of ozone. The hole in stratospheric ozone above Antarctica is clearly visible, with column den

China: Satellite Launch Illuminates Xi’an Sky

This is the breathtaking moment that a mysterious streak lit up the night sky, leaving a bright, long-tailed trail visible to local residents. On June 6, 2025, in Xi’an, Shaanxi, local residents captured video footage of an unidentified flying object slanting upward from the left horizon, trailing a luminous plume across the night sky. The streak appeared almost ethereal, expanded briefly, and then faded, captivating onlookers below. According to a report by People’s Daily, the remarkable light display had been caused by China’s successful launch of the Low-Earth Orbit Satellite Internet “04 group” from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. The video ended with the glowing tail dissipating into the dark sky, leaving only faint wisps as the rocket continued its journey into orbit.

Thanksgiving Beyond Earth

Thanksgiving Beyond Earth

Handout photo dated November 27, 2018 shows Getting all ten members of an aggregation consisting of seven Endeavour astronauts and three Expedition 18 crewmembers into a single photo wasn't easy as the two crews shared a Thanksgiving meal on the middeck of the orbiter. Astronaut Sandra Magnus, Expedition 18 flight engineer, appears at top center. Clockwise from her position are astronauts Shane Kimbrough and Eric Boe, along with cosmonaut Yury Lonchakov, and astronauts Steve Bowen (partially visible behind Lonchakov), Donald Pettit, Michael Fincke, Gregory Chamitoff, Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper and Chris Ferguson (partially visible at top right). Ferguson is STS-126 commander, and Fincke is commander for the station crew. Since 1973, astronauts have celebrated Thanksgiving in space, bringing a cherished tradition far beyond Earth. The first Thanksgiving in orbit took place aboard Skylab during the Skylab 4 mission, where astronauts Gerald Carr, Edward Gibson, and William Pogue marked the day with an improvis

James Webb View Of The Ring Nebula

James Webb View Of The Ring Nebula

The NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope has observed the well-known Ring Nebula with unprecedented detail. Formed by a star throwing off its outer layers as it runs out of fuel, the Ring Nebula is an archetypal planetary nebula. Also known as M57 and NGC 6720, it is both relatively close to Earth at roughly 2,500 light-years away. This new image provides unprecedented spatial resolution and spectral sensitivity. For example, the intricate details of the filament structure of the inner ring are particularly visible in this dataset. There are some 20,000 dense globules in the nebula, which are rich in molecular hydrogen. In contrast, the inner region shows very hot gas. The main shell contains a thin ring of enhanced emission fromcarbon-based molecules known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Roughly ten concentric arcs are located just beyond the outer edge of the main ring. The arcs are thought to originate from the interaction of the central star with a low-mass companion orbiting at a distance

Solar eclipse observed in Middle East

STORY: Solar eclipse observed in Middle East DATELINE: Oct. 26, 2022 LENGTH: 0:00:29 LOCATION: Damascus/Amman CATEGORY: ENVIRONMENT SHOTLIST: 1. various of solar eclipse STORYLINE: People in the Syrian capital of Damascus and the Jordanian capital of Amman observed a partial solar eclipse on Tuesday. The partial solar eclipse was visible from parts of Europe, northern Africa, the Middle East and many parts of western and central Asia. In Syria, people watched the eclipse with a special telescope or through the black polymer. But the sky above Damascus was cloudy and the eclipse couldn't be observed clearly. Meanwhile in Amman, Jordanian astronomy enthusiasts gathered at the Citadel archaeological site of Amman and across the kingdom to observe the partial solar eclipse. The Jordanian Astronomical Society organized the event to raise public interest in astronomy. A solar eclipse occurs on a new moon day when the moon comes in between the earth and the sun, and when all three heavenly bodies are aligned
